This has been addressed below but not satisfactorily.
If a customer buys a download but doesn't open an account he can't find the download.
Have I missed something here?

I have observed customer interactions the last 6 years and I can guarantee that forcing customers to go through the rigamarole of setting up an account is generally an Internet business killer. I have counted WAY too many abandoned carts!

Is there someway to force only Download customers to have to set up an account?
Better yet is there a way to "Backdoor" the customer download?

In the meanwhile my download sales are off-line.

Yes. As of v3.4, if you set the Customer Login Requirement to auto, Squirrelcart will only force the customer to create an account when they need it (such as when they are buying a download).

Better yet is there a way to "Backdoor" the customer download?

No. If you sell a download, the only way we have of knowing whether or not the customer ordered that item is by checking their orders, which requires they login.

When is the customer forced to make an account?
I, so far, have not been able to see that happen
as I purchase a download as a bogus customer?

Squirrelcart will only know that a product is a download if you check this box on the download record, and select the product:

If you've done that and its not working, open a ticket and we can check it out.
