Home Page Content - Is it easier than i think?

Hello. Im not sure where to ask this question but i figure ill give it a shot here. I'll try and be as detailed as possible:

I'm trying to create a content box on the home page that displays a category. only the items in one specific category. using the standard thumbnail layout. I know about the featured items and the new products boxes but i cant really seem to edit them to do what im looking for.

I essentially want to create my own "New Products" content box right on the home page as the first box. but because the new products are connected to the add date in the store system i can only use newly uploaded products (or edit the dates).

Id like to create this content box as a display of a specific category. so that i can control what products appear in this category using the store's "add items" feature in the backend system. and have them display in the same way the new products currently display.

So what im trying to do is just create a box on the homepage that displays only the contents of a category of my choosing. This sounds like it would be easy to do if i understood how to call the category using the php code... or is it somthing SO easy that i just overlooked it. because i havent been able to find the answer in the documentation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I Do That!

Have a look at my storefront page and let me know if this is what you are referring to. I control which product I put on sale (and display) I could share the code with you...

I believe this is your question - to display a particular product only...

    Cool figured it out.

Thanks i figured it out looking at another thread. I had it wrong... (or they have it wrong) i didnt realize the Categories content box was so powerful that it displays everything besides categories. i edited the content box just to display the categories i wanted... in this case my custom New Products category... and then i went to that custom category and changed the HOME PAGE VIEW SETTINGS to display products only. Everything is working fine now... i think!

I really like your top horizontal navigation at the top of your home page. Is there any way that I could get the code to do that?

    Thanks,
    Mick
PS. You have a beautiful website!

    Rapidweaver

Of course - not sure if you're familar with the Mac OSX product called Rapidweaver. It builds major theme based websites in minutes. While it's theme based, the beauty of Rapidweaver themes and it's webpages is that it can be coded in raw HTML. If one chooses, you can even edit the theme as a starting point creating your own unique them.

Unfortunately, Rapidweaver only works with the Mac operating system... Go figure...

If I have not lost you yet - once you've installed Rapidweaver, head on over to numerous different Rapidweaver theme designers and producers... the one you see on my webpage is from the good folks at Nick Cates Design (I actually have purchased 3 themes there that I use on different websites)...

Of course, there are many others... My theme that you refer to is the G ometrix Theme.

Mine is heavily edited from the base theme purchased and before you dive into it, you have to be an intermediate web designer, very familar with manipulating CSS, to get it to work with Rapidweaver.

I've posed a question on this forum before and believe I am the only one using Rapidweaver and SquirrelCart together. To get them to work together you also need the ability to merge the Rapidweaver Theme into raw HTML (Squirrelcart), so understanding Dreamweaver or related software is a must.

I am not trying to sound like a commercial, however you asked about the top menu and asked if you could have it (yes you can)...

You will need these other software pieces first.

    John

p.s. - thanks for the compliment... like most of us designing websites, I think I'm no version 25 or so...

    Thanks!

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it. Of course I'm a PC guy. Maybe I should get a Mac. Seems to be used for media more than the PC.
