Using NEWS emails and getting blocked as a spammer.

Has anyone ever been blocked as a spammer while using the NEWS module to send out info to customers? I have about 500 people in my squirrelcart news module and was working on having a professional html letter created, but my IT pro is recomending some thing like consent contact over squirrelcart. Anyhow I may do only 6 mailing per year and would like to stay with the squirrelcart. Just wondered what good or bad experiences others have had using the news module for sales events and such and if they have been profiled as a spammer.

Whether or not your emails are flagged as spam has everything to do with the content in them rather than the tool you use to send the email. It is really up to your customer's mail server as to whether their spam filter (if they have one) is going to flag the email as spam. I would always recommend you send a mailing to yourself first as a test to see if your mail server thinks the email is spam or not.
