    Non-physical Inventory Items

On our store, I plan on having multiple items that will be "special order" (ordered from the supplier at the time they are purchased by the customer) since they will require our supplier to apply embroidery work before shipping them to us for distribution to the customer. Can I show these items with zero inventory and still have them able to be purchased without triggering an out of stock message?

You have full control over what happens when an item is out of stock via the Inventory Control settings on the Store Settings page in the control panel.

If you have those settings set so that an out of stock message is shown, and/or the item is not available for order when it is out of stock - those rules will always be followed.

If you do have it configured that way, you would need to set stock levels for these items so they do not appear as out of stock. If you don't need to actually control the inventory for these items, set the stock to a very large number.
