    Divided shipping methods

We ship 1 to 10 items via priority mail but after that fedex ground.
Right now we have a separate category to order just one, called sample and it goes priority mail, set price.
If a customer orders 5 then they get charged 5 set prices priority mail charges.
I am sorry if this sounds confusing.
I would like to do away with the separate sample category and have the cart apply priority mail, I guess based on weight until it gets to 10 items and then use FedEx.
Possible? Maybe I am missing something in the documentation.
    Please help, and thanks.
One flaming hoop at a time.

If you want to use Priority Mail via real time rate lookups based on the weight of the item, that is certainly possible. If you haven't already, assign a weight to the item and enable USPS web tools:
    http://squirrelcart.com/help/?USPS%20Web%20Tools.html

Once enabled, and you have Priority Mail rates being returned for the item, you can override those rates with a FedEx Ground rate you designate via a shipping rule. You cannot at this time use shipping rules to control real time rates. You can use them to offer rates in conjunction with real time rates, or use them to offer rates that will override your real time rates.

To offer a manually specified FedEx Ground rate via a shipping rule that overrides your real time USPS rates, you need to make sure the Priority field on the shipping rule is larger than the RTR Shipping Rule Priority field on your USPS shipping courier record.

The default value of RTR Shipping Rule Priority on all shipping courier records is 2. That means that if you haven't changed that, you can override real time rates by creating an applicable shipping rule with a priority of 3 or larger. Here's an example of a rule that would kick in when 10 units of a particular item are in the cart:
