Error: Insufficient permissions to write to -

I just moved to a VPS server from a shared hosting plan and after chasing down most all the bugs I have ONE left that I do not understand:

I can add new product but only the text could be saved. When I went to add an image I would get this : Error: Insufficient permissions to write to - ///http//
I deleted the address part.
Anyhow I checked the permissions on both folders sc_images/products and they are both set to rwx r-x r-x

I've run the sc_install and all my old data is there, everything prior to the move to VPS was working so is this an odd squirrelcart issue or a server setting?

On most servers, you need to set permissions to 777 for all the folders inside sc_images:
