no download link if customer doesn't create account

Apparently, there is nothing in SC that forces a customer to create an account if a download is being purchased. And then there's no way the customer can retrieve the download. Am I missing something? Is there a way to force the customer to create an account so s/he can get the download?

You can force account creation by checking Force User Creation under the General Settings section of your Store Settings control panel page.
