Shipping based on destination zip chart

    Hello --
I have a site that sells pies. UPS is the only shipper. The pies must be delivered the next day. Many go UPS Next Day Air, but if the destination is within a certain local area, they can go Next day ground. Up until now, the pie merchant has sold the pies by phone, referring to a printed chart for shipping costs, based on 1) how many pies and 2) destination zip, which is a range.

Do I have to create a rule for each zip code range for one pie, two pies, three pies, etc.? Like: 1 pie to zip 004-005 = shipping $63.22 / 2 pies to zip 004-005 = shipping $69.21. It's almost endless and further complicated by the fact that we sell other items, too, so what if the package has a t-shirt and a pie? Yipes. Is there an easy way to create a formula or a small set of rules that would make this work?
    THANKS!

    RTR FedEx

I use the RTR (Real Time Rates) from FedEX and have not been off but $1.00 one time (have processed over 600 orders...

Real Time Rates go from the shopping cart, to fedex and come back to your shopping cart with an ACTUAL rate, based on weight and location (from your place to the buyer place)...

This all happens behind the scenes to speak and is actually so quick most people (customers) do not even realize that the went off site for the calculation and then back on your shopping cart for the shipping rate...

I understand you do not use FedEx - I guess it might be time to look at FedEx and they "right on calculations" when it comes to shipping rates...

    RTR and UPS

Thanks for your reply, John. My clients were already signed up with UPS when I came on board, so I probably won't ask them to switch shippers, unless there are drastic errors in shipping costs. I am using RTR with their other products, though, so why not with the pies? Duh. I'll plug that in and see how it works . . .I'm right in assuming I can specify that the pies MUST be delivered next day, whether by air or ground, right? Incidentally, these pies are awesome. They're baked in a paper bag.

Turn On or Off FedEx Shipping "Type"

Yes, you just turn on or off different FedEx shipping type rates within SquirrelCart.

    not specified!
I have a similar problem, my client is shipping cheese via ups, and cannot ship ground to certain (probably most) zip codes.

It's not clear to me how I would set this up. I'm using UPS Web Tools. Is this something I'd set up on the UPS site rather than in Squirrelcart?

Shipping rules control the shipping rates returned for the entire order, not for individual items so that should be kept in mind.

You can control the rates offered based on zip code, and based on when certain items are in the cart via a rule like this:
