In 1.0 version of SquirrelCart, I could take a order with credit card info with no problem. I did not have a gateway of any sort. I did all cards manually. Now, that I have installed the new version of Squirrelcart with UPS tracking, I do not have a option of taking a order with a credit card unless SSL is enabled. Is there a way around this. I want it to be like it used to be, where a customer could make a order, put in their information (credit card info also), and then proceed to shipping info...

Hi,

Please be aware that you should definitely not accept credit cards on your site without having SSL. This is very risky for both you and the customer, and may also be against regulations set forth by Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover. Without SSL, when the customer enters their credit card information, it is transmitted in plain text to your site. This means it could be intercepted along the way.

Now, having said all that, there is nothing intentionally built into Squirrelcart that would force you to have SSL enabled in order to take credit cards. If you have at least one credit card enabled in "Settings > Payment > Methods" and do not have a payment gateway enabled, the order should still go through. In addition, if you have "Email Credit Card Number" enabled, the credit card number will be included in the email that you receive. I have just tested v1.2.0, and instead of getting a thank you page after submitting the credit card info with the above configuration, you get nothing in the content area. I will check this out and get back to you. This is most likely a bug.

Thanks,
Jamie
