View Full Version : USPS realtime rate vs. shipping rules?

Hi,
So, I seem to have squirrelcart up and running and it seems like it will be just what I need. The last (I hope) problem I seem to be having is getting the USPS realtime rate lookup to work. I'm registered for their web tools and have put in my username and password that they supplied. But after the customer supplies their shipping address info it times out with this msg:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/m_cadle/public_html/squirrelcart/functions/get_shipping_method.func on line 21

I've seen the other posts about this error and can't find a conflict in my rules. My goal is to only use realtime rates from the post office...what should my shipping rules look like if I only want customers to choose between realtime priority and express and have no fixed rates that I define in the shipping rules? There doesn't seem to be a way to make a rule about realtime rates. Thanks,
Molly

Hi Molly,

The real time rates actually function as the rules do, and act as a rule with a priority set to 1. If you don't need any particular rules, you can delete them. I would also make sure that you have at least one service enabled on the Shipping Courier record for USPS. After you do that, if you still get the error, please open a helpdesk ticket and we will check it out.

If you do open a ticket, we will need the following info:

- link back to this post for reference
- cart URL
- cart admin acct and password
- FTP account and password

Thanks,
Jamie

Hi Molly,

We came across a bug that sounds very similar to your situation:

There is a fixed attached to the post.

Hi Jamie,
Thanks! I ftp'd the fix and now it no longer times out. However, now all that returns is my blank storefront. I've entered in weights for all my products, so it should have info to get a USPS rate on. I feel like I must be almost there...just a little more help, please. Thanks, so much,
Molly

This problem is showing up for several people. Does anybody have a solution for it?
