I was thinking of using the inventory control feature of the cart when I realized that this only works for each product not on each product option. for example: If I have a t-shirt for sale in red green and blue but was out of blue there is no way to show that we are out of stock of this option. In future versions I'd like to have this possible. I'd also like to see on the admin home page (or elsewhere) a list of products recently marked out of stock.
BTW the new admin interface works great in multiple browsers. Is there any plans to use the DHTML Menu Builder for a squirrelcart theme? I think that would be fly!

Hi,
We are planning on implementing this in the future. (Inventory Control on product options).
As far as DHTML Menu Builder goes, we may implement it in the front end in the future. They do not have a good way to dynamically generate their menus last I checked. Because of this, programming the dynamic content into the new admin menu was very painful (version info, menu option "Settings > Themes > Your Theme Images", field for records per page, etc....We will most likely implement some sort of optional DHTML menu for the front end regardless of whether it uses DHTML menu builder, or our own design.
Thanks,
Jamie

Hi,
We are planning on implementing this in the future. (Inventory Control on product options).
Could product options have their own dimensions as well?

Could product options have their own dimensions as well?
Yes. What we will most likely do is allow a product to be both a regular product, and an option. This will be in addition to having the options that are already there.
Thanks,

Hi Jamie,
I see you answered this post back in May 2002 and said this was something for the future. Has this been added to any version? Something I could really use.

Hi,
No, it has not been added yet. Our next major feature will be discounts. We will be revamping options, and will include the ability to alter inventory when we do so.
Thanks,
Jamie

Hi again. I'm just checking in to see on the status of this feature. I too have the issue of not being able to manage my inventory through the cart because the inventory is based mainly on option values.
What's the outlook, por favor? I need this sooo bad. Thx for the response - stanley-girl.

I was working on training a customer to use the shopping cart, and they had the same need and I was about to say, "not yet" when I noticed that there are now stock numbers next to the options. So it is available!! (I felt kind of silly that I hadn't noticed this feature before!)
I have one question though, if you have two of a certain dress and two option choices, how does this work.
For example you have two total dresses, one red dress, size 4 and one blue dress size 6, how do you "count" the total for when you input a number under the "Add Stock" button. Do you just put 2, and the database is sophisticated enough to know that there are two dresses, both having a size and color option, or do you count it as 4, since when someone selects a size and color, it will take two out of the stockdata base.
Also, how does this work if someone selects "blue" and then "size 4". That isn't in stock, but they can still select it from the database? I am holding off on explaining this to my customer, since I don't understand it myself.
Thanks,
Terri Miller

I'm wondering if there is any answer to this question yet. How to manage the inventory of items that have more than one option. 4 Red Dresses, but 2 in size 6 and 2 in size 8.

We don't have support for treating separate options as a single unit for inventory purposes. The only way you could do this is to create a single option that combines size and color, as in:
Choose color and size:
Red - small
Red - medium
Red - large
Blue - small
Blue - medium
Blue - large
etc...
