We will be adding the ability to put single items, entire categories, or everything in the store on sale/discount. We are planning on having this feature rule based, as the shipping features are. You will be able to offer discounts based on order total, total number of items, total weight, country, state, and eventually by the group the user is in (new feature to be added as well...see the other post on groups)

Is it possible to add an optional field for coupon code that would apply a discount to all the items in the cart at checkout?

Good idea. We will be adding this as well. Thanks!

This would be a great addition.
If you don;t mind me asking what are you currently working on for the cart?

At the moment, we don't have any changes that are being made. We usually start a modification, and try to see it to its end without leaving much time in between. I haven't decided what to start on next. I usually do either whatever I'm in the mood for OR whatever has been requested based on the need for it AND the difficulty involved. In other words, if someone places a request for something that is needed AND is relatively easy to implement, sometimes I will do it right away. Other things that are a little more involved I usually put some time aside for, and bang away at them until they are done. Sales are way up on the list! I am going to add some new features this weekend, so I may start working on this then. The install of the cart I work on evolves from bug fixes and new additions. What will be currently 1.0.8 at this time only has a few bug fixes in it, and no new features yet.

Hi Jamie,
Do you think this will be introduced any time soon?
Is it possible to add:
Shipping price for individual items
Discount for individual items when purchasing more than 1
Handling charge per order
Continue Shopping Button
I would be happy to pay for these four features since I have three customers that I am waiting to transfer over to this cart but can't use it without them.

You have ignored two emails on this subject and the post in here.
I changed to your cart because I think it is a great product. I am not asking for free programming here. I am offering to pay you for your time.
Am I asking too much ?
At least let me know that you can't do it or don't have the time.

Sorry. We were not ignoring you. This is in the works, but I do not have an ETA.

These will all be available in a future version.
We won't be adding a "continue shopping button" as the categories are already displayed in the navigation during checkout. You can certainly add any additional links you want to the bottom of the checkout pages via the "view_cart_footer.php" template.

Awesome!
That is what I needed to know.
This is still the best cart available!
Thanks!

Hi, Jamie! It's been a few months, do you have an ETA?
And on a side note, I'd like to say that you're an excellent customer service rep - even when people seem angry, your answer is as far from retaliatory as it could get. Thanks for your patience in dealing with our impatience. :)

Hi,
Hi, Jamie! It's been a few months, do you have an ETA?
I appreciate your patience!
Which one of these is most important to you, or perhaps could you rank them from most to least important?
Shipping price for individual items
Discount for individual items when purchasing more than 1
Handling charge per order
In this list, we can hopefully get the first and last items into 1.1.0, which should be out within 2 weeks. The second is going to take a little longer, but is very high on our list of to dos. We have been spending most of our time of late working on inventory control, which will definitely be in 1.1.0. The reason the discounts will take a little longer is because we want to get it just right. There are so many things to consider, and we want to make sure we don't leave anything out. 8)

Thanks! :D I understand impatience completely, and it doesn't hurt to prod us once in a while to remind us of certain things you'd like to see in the cart. We are actually a rather small business, and are hoping to get bigger! We are feeling some growing pains with regards to support and all the legal stuff. It sure can't hurt to remind us of things like this!
Thanks,
Jamie

Chalk me up for one vote for "Handling charge per order" for the first one.
Second would be "Shipping price for individual items"
The third would be great to have but I have been able to work around it.
I have to agree with baudbarf, your customer service skills are top notch! :D

Anything on Discounts or Coupons?

No, we have no progress on this yet. We spent all of our time on Inventory Control, USPS integration, bug fixes, and improvements to the payment gateways. We now have a deadline imposed by UPS to integrate their live rate tools, so will not be working on anything else until that is finished.
Thanks,
Jamie

I was just wondering what the status of this coupon code is? I saw that you already had the UPS intergrated, and a new release as of September. I could really use this feature, as I'm sure others here coudl too.

Hi Chris,
We do not have an ETA for this. It will come with as part of a discount feature that is desperately needed. We are working on improving the image upload capabilities of the cart now. This will include automatic generation of thumbnail images, and the ability to flip, mirror, rotate, and crop. Once we are done with that, we will release it with some other change as 1.3.0. This will actually happen relatively soon compared to the amount of time there was between 1.1 and 1.2. After that, we will be working on discounts and some other improvements. So, hopefully it will make it in 1.4.0.
Thanks,
Jamie

Define "relatively soon" please.

In a developers world, relatively soon = sometime between today, and the day it's released. :D
Ok, all kidding aside... We hope to have 1.3.0 released within the next week or two. Changes to the image handling components are being finalized, and bug fixes are being implemented.
Define "relatively soon" please.

I realize the ver 1.3 just came out... but I was just curious about the status/priority of a coupon field in the checkout.
BTW, Love the product and the client is thrilled!

Hi Jeff,
Glad it is working well for you! The main addition to v1.3.0 were much needed image field improvements:
http://www.ldev.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1055
The discount feature will be our next undertaking, and will include a rule based coupon feature, similar to the shipping rules. I hope to get it into v1.4.0, but do not have an ETA.
Thanks,
Jamie

Jamie,
Hope this feature is coming along for you. Had a request from clients on how to do a buy one get one free with the cart. I gave several suggestions but not the best answers. The client has a video tape and dvd sales site and he offers a get one free of equal or lesser value. I know this could be a hard one to think up. Also he has a minimum sales value requirement; and as you can see selling one video tape at $2.99 and processed via a gateway could really drive up the cost of running a business. Any ideas?

I was wondering if there was any new information/progress on this topic.
I would also like to see a gift registry

Like the topic. Had a request to do a buy one get one free of equal of lesser value. Would be nice to define a rule to restrict to same catagory and/or product.

Just wondering if the discount option had made it to v. 1.4.0? I don't see it, if it did. :)
My client is wanting something that will work on purchase amount...percentage off at $100, and greater percentage off at larger purchase, etc.
If it is not done, any ETA?
Thanks! :)

The discounts feature didn't make it into v1.4.0, but it did make it into v1.5.0, which we're hoping to have ready for BETA at the end of the month (though this ETA could change).

Just wondering if there has been any progress to the coupon issue? This would surely be a fantastic condition. ;)
Jamie

We are working on that at this moment. The discount feature is our top priority, and is very close to being done. When it is released, it should be difficult to find a type of sale that you can't add to the cart! :squirrel:

Is it possible now or would it be possible in the future to generate a coupon that get's disabled after one use?
I guess this would be more like a gift certificate. It would need to automatically generate numbers for however many gift certificates I wanted to produce. This would be a great thing for me because I could use it to really promote my online business offline getting customers to enter into a drawing or just giving away gift certificates for a lesser valued item when they purchase an item at regular price.

We had this on our list of things to add to the discount feature, and it never made it into 1.5.0. It will be coming in the future.

How's it going?
It's been a while since we upgraded anda I see some cool changes were made.
On this subject, I went to the demo store front on http://www.squirrelcart.com/demo and tried the check out on it and it showed the coupon deal on the check out page.
Does that mean it is in the new version?
Thanks.

Just casting my vote for having the Buy X for Y work across multiple products. I would love SC to be able to automatically add items to the cart (free/discounted items) when it detects that certain other items have been added to the cart. My client is also asking that SC selectively apply this type of discount for users who enter in a promotional code.
I've currently installed SquirrelCart v 2.1.4

On another note:

I also wanted to say that when I try to save "discount" conditions, they seem not to stick, or they're not correctly remembered when I revisit them in the administrative system. I think it may be an issue with using the "Greater Than" parameter. They seem to work a little better if I use the Greater Than or Equal To parameter.
Maybe I've failed to apply all the patches, (I've been slow to upgrade due to customizations my client requested in the code). Please let me know if a fix for the conditions is available.
