View Full Version : Add Fixed Value to UPS RTR Values

Much like the person in this thread (http://www.ldev.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1948) I'd like to be able to add a fixed rate to the rates that the UPS RTR is returning. It seems that RTR is close, but often a bit low on some of the items. Rather than trying to mess with item weights and such (since I used actual weights), I'd rather just add a fixed value and be done with it.
I'm assuming that this would need to be done in ups_online_toos.func.php but I could be wrong. If this is the right file, I'm not sure where the best place to insert the change would be.
Also, while we're on the subject of UPS RTR, does RTR take into account the value and automatically apply the correct cost for insurance? If not, can I enable this feature since EVERYTHING we ship is insured and some of it expensive (which may account for the differences in calculated and actual shipping costs).
Thanks!

Anyone know how to enable insurance on the RTR calculations?
No ideas where to insert a +1.50 into the calculations?
Thanks

This is a major issue for me as well.
We have a number of problems with the shipping feature of the cart.
To add to your request here, I would like to be able to have check boxes that add insurance and/or delivery confirmation (we use USPS only) costs to the order. It would have to be an option in the rule itself, not on the cart, b/c for USPS, the delivery confirmation cost differs with First Class vs. Priority (my client wants to charge exact shipping).
Also, as the USPS RTR seem to be WAY overcharging, we would like to be able to input the zone information directly into a table used by squirrelcart, much like the WHERE city/state/order total/... etc pick list is, it would contain either a zip code or zone code depending on how SQ wants to set it up. Hmmmm...

SatinRose,
I suspect that your issues with the USPS RTR as well as requests for Insurance and Delivery Confirmation will be addressed in completely different files than the UPS issues brought up in this threads original topic. While I completely understand your frustration (trust me on this one), I don't want to dilute this thread by getting off the original topic of issues with the UPS RTR. I would recommend starting a new thread so that Squirrelcart staff can address the USPS issues in their entirety without getting them crossed up with issues of other shipping methods.
I'm still surprised that nobody has a way to at least add a fixed value the the calculated UPS RTR value. I expected the insurance issue to be more complicated, but the fixed value seemed like it would be a slam dunk.
Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
There is no support for adding insurance to UPS rates (as you've already discovered). There is no easy solution for this. The shipping functionality will be completely reworked AFTER v2.0.0 is released, and we will add insurance at that time.

Jamie,
I appreciate the confirmation about the insurance, and the notice that it will be addressed after the release of 2.0 (which I can't wait for!).
Still, my original question (see the subject of the thread) has gone unaddressed. Is there some way to add a fixed value to every shipment without calling it a "handling fee" or having it show to the customer? This will take care of MOST of my shipments that have calculated low due to lack of insurance for the time being.

Dennis, have you had any luck on how/where it might be possible to hard code adding a fixed amount to the RTR returned by UPS? That would definitely be a short term (unsupported, of course) workaround - but haven't been able to find where this would occur.
