Couple questions...

First, I need some creative direction on using common carrier. We either need to come up with a way to guestimate common carrier chargers to various locations or force all customers buying products that require common carrier to check out use a "call me for shipping quote and credit card info".

The final question is about UPS tracking number. Maybe I am missing something. The UPS part of the cart just calculates price right? Does nothing more. If that is the case, how do you inform the customer via the site on the tracking number? I thought that when you added "shipped" to the status there would be somewhere to add the tracking number.

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Hi Rich,

I'm not familiar with "Common Carrier". Is that the name of a courier? Sometimes, depending on what you sell, you can get pretty close to the shipping costs by using shipping rules, and making the shipping cost a % of the order total. There really is no set way on making your shipping work via rules. It really depends on what you are offering for shipping, and what your weights are.

For UPS tracking, there is no way to specify the tracking number on the order record. This is needed, and we will be adding it in the future. For now, the only way to get the tracking number to the customer is via Email.

Thanks,
Jamie

OK thanks Jamie,

As far as common carrier, that is just semi truck. This particular customer ships stuff that weights between 2000# and 3600#. And from 100 miles away to 1500. So the cost could be $200 to $2000 !.

That said, I think a way to filter out these 150# plus packages and force them to require the supplier to call them with the common actual price and take the credit card order over the phone is best.

As far as the tracking number I have used salescart X in the past. I think it is pretty powerful but is very rough around the edges. I just got tired of fighting it. What they did that was nice is when you fulfilled an order it send an email to the customer with the tracking number using a template email. Something to keep in mind. Not that I am plugging them because the "squirrel" runs circles around theirs.
